Jury finds Osama Bin Laden NOT GUILTY over 9/11 Attacks- World

WRITTEN BY WWW.DAILY.PK
SUNDAY, 26 APRIL 2009 16:39

The inabsentia trial of the most wanted man on this Earth has recently concluded, with a jury finding Usama Bin Laden NOT GUILTY of masterminding, planning, financing and heading the terrorist attacks of September 11th 2001.

The Dutch television show “Devil’s Advocate”, tried Usama Bin Laden in front of a jury, with Dutch Master of Law, Gerard Spong defending. Amongst the prosecutions star witnesses were American correspondent and expert Charles Groenhuijsen and terrorism expert Glenn Schoen.

The jury were instructed to decide if the acts of terror committed on 9/11 can be rightly attributed to Usama Bin Laden.

The three indictments read out in court were:

Indictment 1 - Usama Bin Laden gave the order for the attacks of September 11 2001.

Indictment 2 - Usama Bin Laden is the leader of Al-Qaeda.

Indictment 3 - Usama Bin Laden is a terrorist.

The Verdicts?

On the first indictment, the jury decided that too little hard, indisputable evidence had been produced to show that Usama Bin Laden was responsible for the September 11 attacks. NOT GUILTY

On the second indictment, the jury considered it a fact that Al-Qaeda exists, but whether Usama Bin Laden is the undisputed leader of the organisation is something the jury has doubts over. NOT GUILTY.

On the third indictment, the jury almost unanimously decided that Usama Bin Laden to be a terrorist. GUILTY.

Spong was able to convince the jury that bin Laden's connection to Sept. 11 was a product of "Western propaganda." The jury also ruled there was insufficient evidence to prove bin Laden was the real head of terrorist network al-Qaida. However, the jury did rule that bin Laden is a "terrorist who has misused Islam."

Although this is only a television programme, it caused somewhat of an uproar when it was aired earlier this month in the Netherlands. I remember hearing Colin Powell saying “in the near future we will be able to put out a document that will describe quite clearly the evidence that we have linking Bin Laden to this attack.”

This evidence was never produced.

In a court of law, it falls onto the accusing party to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused is guilty. Yet the only result we have seen was not only the war in Afghanistan, but also under a cloud of lies, the war in Iraq.

Muslims are often accused of having conspiracy theories, but there wasn’t a single Muslim in the jury that tried Bin Laden on Devil’s Advocate.

The truth about what happened on September 11 2001, is not in the public domain.

Perhaps one day all will become clear, but I don’t think we will like what we find out.

Through this project, initially 72,500 broadband connections will be provided by PTCL and 16,500 by Wateen Telecom. It may be mentioned that Universal Service Fund (USF) is made up of contributions by telecom service providers of Pakistan.

A simple contract signing ceremony was held at Ministry of IT marking launch of first ever project of its kind for bringing Broadband to small cities and towns. Giving his remarks on the occasion, Federal Secretary for Information Technology, Hifz-ur-Rehman said that the Ministry of IT is striving to accelerate broadband proliferation in the country. He was of the view that USF Programme ‘Broadband for un-served Urban Areas’ will give boost to broadband in the 2nd and 3rd tier cities of the country and will also help in provision of other services like education, tele-medicine, e-government, e-commerce etc. He added that, through USF, Rural Telecom Programme is also being run to provide basic telephony while a program to provide Optic Fiber connectivity to all un-served Tehsils is also being executed. He also informed that according to ‘The Lisbon Consensus’ adopted at the 4th International Telecommunication Union, World Telecommunication Policy Forum on April 24, 2009, the intervention of government for broadband proliferation has been endorsed. He congratulated PTCL and Wateen Telecom on winning the bidding and hoped that they would work with great zeal and zest to achieve the objectives of the project in a timely maner.

Chairman-PTA, Dr. Muhammad Yaseen also congratulated all the stakeholders and added that operators need to generate more awareness among the public regarding benefits of broadband. He expressed that the media campaigns being run by the operators need to be more focused towards the success stories related to broadband and how broadband could be used for the well-being of the people.

CEO of USF, Parvez Iftikhar, informed that FTR, has 56 towns and cities of various sizes with numerous potential broadband users like, hospitals, distance learning centers of Open University, Banks, NADRA centers/kiosks, Government Offices, Libraries, Courts, Industries and various other institutions, in addition to a population of more than 3 Million that could benefit. He further informed that a major highlight of this project will be the establishment of more than 250 Educational Broadband Centres in all the High-Schools and Colleges in these towns and cities, besides more than 100 Community Broadband Centres will be set up which will provide Broadband to those who cannot afford their own computers. He acknowledged the tremendous cooperation, help and support of the Ministry of IT and PTA, without which this landmark could not be achieved.

CEO USF also informed that bids for the next three similar projects have already been called through Press and Websites for the areas around Multan, Hyderabad and Mansehra. These will be followed by more projects till the whole country is covered. Moreover, bids for three more Projects of Basic Rural Telecom and two of Optic Fiber expansion in Baluchistan are also awaited.

Sikandar Naqi, SEVP Corporate Development PTCL, said, it was indeed a landmark, which characterizes PTCL - USF partnership. This is not for the first time that both stakeholders have joined hands with a view to providing quality telecom services to the end-users in less-privileged areas. This venture would enable customers of this area to benefit from the state of the art broadband services as high speed internet at highly competitive rates.

While sharing his thoughts at the occasion, Furqan Qureshi, GM-Wateen Telecom said that Wateen will continue to collaborate for the upcoming initiatives from USF, including deployment of optical fiber and broadband networks in the country. He added, ‘A socially inclusive Pakistan, is as much our dream as it is for the people of Pakistan’.

Mushtaq Ahmed Bhatti, Member-Telecom, Ministry of IT, and other high officials of the Ministry and PTA, besides senior executives of USF, PTCL and Wateen Telecom were also present at the occasion.

Islamabad Traffic Police(ITP) Introduce License Testing on Touch Screens - General

itpIslamabad Traffic Police is always impressive. I have seen their campaigns to raise awareness levels and their general dealing with the public. They try their level best to be different then the traditional Pakistani police, which are not very famous among the people. Recently a friend of mine was telling me that no one can get a driving license in Islamabad without undergoing the necessary driving tests. It was very rare few years back so that is why it seems like a big development to everyone.

In their effort to modernize the whole exercise and to effectively use technology, Islamabad traffic police has also introduced touch screen based testing of the candidates for interpreting different traffic signals. The introduction of this technology will reduce the time to undertake the test and hence the applicants will not have to undergo through a tiring experience. Cheers to the Islamabad Traffic Police for all their efforts to improve on the overall image of their department.

A press statement said SSP (traffic) Sultan Azam Temuri had formally inaugurated the Touch Screen System at ITP Headquarters. The capital is the first district to have such a system, he said.
Temuri said objective of the new system was to facilitate applicants for driving licenses. “This would enable at least 13 candidates to take tests at the same time and the entire process of clearing the test will last four minutes,” he said.
He said ITP was providing modern driving licenses to citizens. “There will be two language options for conducting signal tests - English and Urdu - and each candidate will be given 10 questions. Successful candidates will have to give correct answers of at least seven questions,” he said.
After clearing this road signal test, an applicant might appear in road-driving test. “Those applying for driving license of motorcycles may reappear after three days if they fail in the first attempt of the road signal test,” he said.
“The candidates applying for LTV and HTV licenses may reappear after 42 days if they fail in the first attempt of road signs test. In case, the candidate is hesitant to take test on touch screen system in the first phase, he will have an option for taking manual test of road signals,” he said.

PTA(Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) plans to roll out digital push-to-talk system - Telecom

KARACHI: Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) has planned to roll out digital push-to-talk (PTT) network in the country with 800 MHz band spectrums by the next six months considering its high demand for commercial and security purposes, a top official told Daily Times. The regulatory body will auction band spectrums followed by the allocation of the separate frequency allocations among them. PTA is intending to segregate the spectrum on the basis of frequency bandwidth as well as the geographical area for it’s auctioning, it has been decided.
Digital PTT technology has the potential to bring several benefits to several sectors of Pakistan’s population. Applications of this technology will include all forms of distress signaling, emergency calling, health services, services for fire and security personnel,
Intelligence / border surveillance-type communication and in mainstream businesses perhaps a ready-fit for logistics and transport type operations where an instructor or superintendent is advising instructions to several junior / field staff. In Pakistan frequency bands: 806 – 811MHz and 851-856 MHz have been identified for trunk radio services in the National Frequency Plan. iDEN is one of the few technologies that is capable of providing digital PTT service to various closed-circuit sectors of Pakistan over these bands, it learnt.
Chairman PTA, Dr Muhamamd Yaseen told Daily Times the market would consider every service providers of the digital PTT system as the authority will provide equal opportunity to every player.
He said some of the cellular phone companies have shown keen interest in introducing digital PTT services through their existing wide-base network, however, he said the authority will also include separate independent PTT operators in the race to make competitive market of this technology, aiming to thrive this facility as soon as possible in country.
Currently, the PTA has taken initiatives to acquire industry feedback on the regulatory framework to be adopted for licensing of digital PTT service in Pakistan, he added. PTA chief told the digital systems will be catering to the internal needs of private companies and organisations and enhance new business opportunities in the telecom sector.
In order to bridge this gap between legacy analogue private mobile systems and modern digital public land mobile systems such as GSM, UMTS etc. a new genre of technologies have been developed that can serve the needs of closed circuit Radio users. These technologies include TETRA(Europe), iDEN (USA and Canada), IDRA (Japan), TETRAPOL and Project 25. However, in Pakistan, the private mobile radio is still being used by closed circuit users such as public safety organizations, industrial firms, transportation & security organizations etc.
According to Statistics there are about 47.65 million employed industrial workers in Pakistan as estimated in 2006-07. A good majority of these workers are associated with agriculture, forestry, fishing industry, security organisations, factories, refineries, construction, and transport related businesses. All of these businesses rely heavily on private mobile radios in VHF band for carrying out their dispatch related activities, and hence, are potential users of digital PTT system.
Industry people were of the view the Push-to-Talk digital services will prove to be another milestone in the most competitive and advance telecom sector of the country. They forecast that the advance digital communication system will also attract foreign services operators in the country and the inflow of Foreign Direct Investment will increase in this sector from various countries of the world.--Daily Times

Owner of web www.daily.pk (I learned about Islam through Internet) - General

    WRITTEN BY WWW.DAILY.PK
    THURSDAY, 23 APRIL 2009 18:06
In the Name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful

Islam is truly a beautiful and noble religion. Despite all of the bad press given to Islam and to Muslims in general, it has managed to flourish and gain followers for almost 15 centuries. Islam is, in a few short words, my life. Allah is the driving force in my life. Without Allah, I am nothing. Without Allah, I am of less significance than a single atom.

When I sat down to write this introduction, I did not intend to tell the whole story of my reversion to Islam. The more I think about it, the more I realize that this is the perfect place for my story...

I was born into a fairly religious Polish, Roman-Catholic family. I was baptized at birth, and I attended a religious pre-school in Detroit, Michigan. Church was always a part of my early childhood in Detroit, although my family did not go every week. It was not until after we moved to North Carolina that my parents started going to church more often.

I had always gone to Catholic School, so from the first grade I had been schooled in the life of Jesus (peace be upon him/PBUH), his mother, Mary, the Apostles, the Bible, and the Sacraments. I made my "First Holy Communion" at the age of 7, and I had no problem believing that the little wafer of unleavened bread was truly the "Body of Christ".

My faith in Catholic Christianity remained strong throughout most of my grade school years. I seemed to be developing into a conservative, "Old School Catholic". I respected Judaism, looked down on Protestantism and Orthodoxy, and saw religions like Islam and Hinduism as strange faiths for foreign people. However, the church that we attended didn't seem to "fill me up" spiritually.

In September of 1995, a local Melkite Byzantine Catholic (a group of Orthodox Catholics from Lebanon) parish held a liturgy at our church. I went with my mother, and I fell in love. It was simply the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, heard, and smelled. A traditional liturgy, chanted in English, Arabic, and Greek, with candles, icons, and lots of incense. I started attending Divine Liturgy at the Melkite church regularly.

When my friends learned about my new church, they didn't exactly criticize me, but they did not understand why I liked the Melkite Catholic liturgy better than the Roman Catholic liturgy. Some people claimed that I was doing it for attention. I always thought that if I had wanted to draw attention to myself, I would have done something a little more outrageous!

I continued to go to the Melkite church weekly, until mid-March of 1996. It was during the Church's season of Lent, which is 40 days before Easter, that I had my first serious falling-out with Christianity. I am not exactly sure what prompted it, but all of a sudden, I stopped believing in the Christian religion. For some reason, I felt drawn towards Judaism, the only other "good" monotheistic religion that I knew of. I went to a Sabbath service at a local synagogue with a Jewish friend of my parents. I had always been interested in Jewish culture, but I didn't know much about the Jewish religion.

I began to attend Sabbath services on Sunday mornings. Although I was fairly well accepted by the Jews in town, I drew a lot of criticism from my friends. Again, I was accused of trying to get attention, of trying to be different. Despite what people said, I slowly began to adopt Judaism and follow Jewish cultural and religious practices. I learned to read Hebrew and memorized a great deal of the Saturday Sabbath service.

By the time I started high school in 1996, people called me "The kid who thinks he's Jewish". I planned on eventually converting to Judaism and perhaps even moving to Israel. Little did I know, my flirtation with Jewish life would end soon.

Sometime after Thanksgiving, I was sitting at home on the Internet, looking for an interesting site or two. I was looking through an Internet magazine, and a site review caught my eye. The site was Ibrahim Shafi's Islam Page. From this page, I was confronted with Islam.

What was my previous knowledge of Islam? Not much. I had a friend in school who was a Muslim, and my mother worked with a Muslim man. However, my knowledge of Islam was extremely limited. Most of what I knew came from the "Princess" books, which made me frown at Islam's treatment of women. Plus, my exposure to Judaism had given me a slight anti-Arab/Muslim bias.

Nevertheless, I began to read up on Islam through the web. I soon began to hang out on an Islamic website on the Internet Relay Chat (IRC), making lots of Muslim friends. Soon, I started declaring the Shahada to myself every day. My life began to take on structure, but I still did not feel that I was part of the Ummah (Muslim Community), as I had not declared the ‘Shahada’ (Declaration of Islamic Faith) in front of a witness.

My opportunity to become a Muslim in front of other Muslims came during a trip to Chicago. My sister was going to the University of Chicago, and I realized that there was an active MSA (Muslim Student Association) there. I formally declared my belief in Allah and the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him/PBUH) before an MSA-run organization. My life came together.

I have since adopted the name Tariq Ali, online at least, but in the regular world, I remain Tommy.

People seem to think I change my religion often. I still get comments like, "What religion are you this week, Tommy?" Usually, I just tell them I am a Muslim, and if they are interested, I tell them about our wonderful religion.

Top 5 best antivirus softwares - PC Software

The internet is a glorious and exciting world, but unless you're properly protected with a good antivirus application, it can also be a dangerous one. We've come a long way since the days of Norton, with handfuls of excellent freeware software that can keep your computer safe from malware just as well as their bloated, more expensive counterparts. On Tuesday we asked you to share your favorite antivirus application, and today we're rounding up the five most popular answers. Hit the jump for an overview of the five best antivirus applications and to cast your ballot for the best antivirus app of the group.

    AVG Anti-Virus (Freeware and Shareware)

The lightweight AVG Free provides protection against the various nasties floating around the internet. Like many of the options in the Hive Five, AVG provides freeware (with limitations) and commercial versions of their software, but most users find AVG Free is all they need—though many users prefer versions prior to the most recent 8.0 release.

    NOD32 (Shareware)

NOD32 is best known for its speed and small system footprint, but users also swear by NOD32 as a comprehensive and bulletproof solution. At $40/year for a home license, it's not free, but NOD32 die-hards claim the pricetag is well worth it.

    Avast Antivirus (Freeware and Shareware)

Available in both freeware (Home) and shareware (Professional) flavors, Avast Antivirus is the happy home of many an AVG-switcher. Avast is slightly heavier on system resources, but users argue its excellent protection more than makes up for the increased footprint. The freeware version will cost you an email address to get a free registration code from their website.

    Avira AntiVir (Freeware and Shareware)

According to many of its users, Avira is the go-to freeware app for detecting viruses and other malware that other antivirus apps miss. Like several of its peers, Avira is available in both freeware (Personal) and shareware (Premium) versions, and most people find the freeware alternative plenty to suit their needs. One downside to Avira on install is pop-up ads enabled by default (adware, anyone?), but you can disable the ads with a couple of clicks.

    Kaspersky Anti-Virus (Shareware)

Fans of shareware antivirus app Kaspersky point out its consistently strong ratings in malware protection as well worth the $60 license. Kaspersky also boasts an extremely quick response time to new viruses, earning it a special place in the hearts and system trays of its users.

Good news, Musharraf offers to return to power in Pakistan - General

    WRITTEN BY WWW.DAILY.PK
    FRIDAY, 24 APRIL 2009 20:53
President Pervez Musharraf has said he would be prepared to return to office in Pakistan.

In a rare interview with Al-Jazeera since being forced to resign from office last year, Mr Musharraf, said he would consider serving a second term as Pakistan’s president if he felt he could make a valuable contribution.

"If Pakistan is in a nosedive, or about to self-destruct, if I can contribute something to rectify the situation, certainly I will. My life is for Pakistan," he said. "I still believe that Pakistan comes first."

Mr Musharraf, 65, ruled Pakistan for nine years after seizing power in a bloodless coup in 1999 and became a close ally of the West in the war on terror following the September 11 attacks.

Musharraf said he had decided to resign because if he had remained in office he would have become "some kind of an impotent president. I’m not the kind of person who sits around uselessly. I can’t be a useless man."

But since stepping down Mr Musharraf said he had become "despondent" about what was happening in Pakistan, particularly now the Taliban has been allowed to introduce Sharia law to the Swat valley, which was previously controlled by Islamabad.

The former Pakistani president said "terrorism and extremism" were the biggest threat to Pakistan’s future, and he was opposed to the deal the government of President Ali Asif Zardari had struck with the Taliban allowing it to control the Swat valley. "Denying the constitution of Pakistan, and bringing in laws which are different from Pakistan, must not be allowed," he said. "We don’t want that kind of Islam in Pakistan. We don’t want Talibanisation in Pakistan."

Mr Musharraf said he believed the Taliban now constituted a far greater threat to Pakistan’s future than al-Qaeda, which he estimated had only about 300 activists based in the country. The Taliban posed a greater threat because "they get strength from the population. al-Qaeda does not get strength from the population."

And he warned that there was a "trust deficit" developing between Washington and Pakistan over how best to tackle Islamist militant groups. "The worst part of the whole situation is that there is a trust deficit between the U.S. and Pakistan’s intelligence service (ISI) and in many quarters against the army. Now that is a very serious situation, which never previously existed.

"These are the two institutions which are the guarantors of stability in Pakistan. If anything has to be repaired, it has to be this trust deficit. Otherwise the two elements which are critical to fighting terrorism and extremism will be demoralised and not get the support they deserve."

Mr Musharraf also criticised America’s use of Predator unmanned aircraft to attack Islamist militants in Pakistan. "We cannot allow any foreign force to attack on our side of the border," he said. "We must use our own forces. And whatever resources are lacking - such as Predator aircraft - Pakistan must be given those resources."

Nor did he believe had there been any significant change in American policy since Barack Obama became U.S. president. "He has taken the decision to send more force. So what was happening in the past? There was a force requirement and he is following exactly the same strategy."

Mr. Musharraf said he had no regrets about allying Pakistan with Washington following the September 11 attacks. "It was the right decision from Pakistan’s point of view."

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf’s interview with Sir David Frost will be broadcast on Frost Over the World on al Jazeera on Friday at 8pm. Repated On Sky Digital Channel 514, 1 AM UK Time.

Apple first quarter 2009 financial results - Apple

The company acquired a revenue of 8.16 billion US dollars and a net quarterly profit of 1.21 billion US dollars.

It seems that the world economical downturn has been merciful to the guys over at Cupertino as it's obviously has been the most successful non-holiday quarter in Apple's history.

The current results compare quite favorably to the revenue of 7.51 billion US dollars (8.6% increase) and net quarterly profit of 1.05 billion US dollars (15.2% increase) achieved in the same period last year. .

According to Apple the nice results are mainly due to the strong sales of the iPhone and Apple TV. The iPhone 3G units sold this quarter were 3.79 million, which is exactly 123% more than the sales for the same period last year. The company also managed to move 2.22 million Macs (3 percent decline YoY) and 11.01 million iPods (3 percent growth).

The introduction of the Apple's AppStore is also playing a decisive role in the company's success. The app distribution network has helped almost a billion apps reach their new owners in less than a year existence. By the way, just as a trivia, Apple have a huge AppStore counter all over their website right now, counting up to the one billionth download, which should be due these days.
